In this unit, I watched 2 videos that showed a clear distinction between an effective teacher and lesson and an ineffective teacher and lesson. I was able to clearly differentiate the strengths and weaknesses in each lesson to learn what things i should do and shouldn't do in my own lessons. In this first video, the teacher spoke a lot and he used language that was above what the students could comprehend. He spoke about the different grammatical forms and kept referring to the tasks as easy. The students didn't understand the lesson and were intimidated by the teacher. Additionally, the teacher seemed disinterested and bored during the lesson. He made no effort to involve the students in the lesson, or check that the students had understood and the lesson was heavily dominated by students working individually without enabling them to at least learnt from one another. In the second video, the teacher was friendly, excited and motivating. He really involved the students to participate through pair work, and calling on different students to answer his questions. He used simple language that was catered to the students ability but also managed to find opportunities to teach new language and grow the students language through use examples, stimuli, mime and gesture. the teacher never gave the students the answer but scaffolded the answer so that the onus was always on the students but they were guided to the correct response. this gave students much more practice using language.", I have to admit that I liked this unit. Watching a video that shows right from wrong is the best way for me to learn. The first video showed a very bad way to teach. The lesson was so confusing and boring. Making things fun and clear is the best way to get students to learn and understand what they are learning. This was a great unit., I was head of department for 20 years and was responsible for monitoring and evaluating teachers under me. The first video made me cringe remembering some teachers I let go. It was hard for me to fathom how
