Unit ten, containing two video classes, can be used as a summary of all the previous units pertaining to teaching methods and managing classes. The two demos are complete opposites. In the first footage the teacher makes a series of mistakes while carrying out a class. Basically, this video presents all the things that should never occur in the class. First thing was incorrect lesson plan, based on total misunderstanding of ESA schedule. As the teacher started with the Study phase, the result was students completely unengaged in the class. Moreover, the Study phase itself was conducted very badly as the teacher did not explain clearly the issue and was using language inappropriate for the students' level. The huge part of this stage was writing on a board without turning back. The teacher's attitude was not quite encouraging for the students as well, as he did not even try to establish any kind of rapport with the learners. Handing out the assignments was not preceded by any kind of explanation about how to complete the task. The exercise was not checked properly after completion. All that left the students confused and unmotivated. The second demo class in turn was a nice change and provided a great view of how a good lesson should look like. In the video the teacher tries to
build a positive atmosphere in the class from the very beginning , so that everybody can feel comfortable and relaxed. As a result all the learners want to actively participate in the activities on every stage of this 'straight arrow' pattern class. The teacher not only uses previously prepared materials, but also tries mime, gesture and voice modulation. The language is clear for everybody, the teacher seems to be very concerned about full understanding of the presented issue by every student (known by name). In the end we can observe a progress that all the learners have made during the class. In general the second footage provides a nice visual instruction for the properly carried out lesson.", In this unit I learned how to teach and introduce the modal auxiliary verbs can and can not through the medium of animal's abilities.
