In this unit, I have learned that there are 7 different future tenses: 1.Future Simple; 2.Future Continuous; 3.Future Perfect; 4.Future Perfect Continuous; 5.Be going + Infinitive; 6.Present Simple; 7.Present Continuous. Throughout the following lines, I will briefly describe the forms and usages for each of these tenses. 1.Future Simple Forms: -Affirmative: I shall/will + verb You will........... He/She/It will..... We shall/will...... They will.......... -Negative: I will not/shall not; You will not, etc. -Question: Shall/Will I? Will you? etc. -Negative Question: Will/Shall I not? Will you not? etc. -Contractions: I'll, You'll, Shan't, Won't, etc. Usages: Future facts and certainties, predictions, promises, spontaneous decisions, assumptions, threats. 2.Future Continuous Form: subject + will + be + verb + ing (present participle) -Affirmative: We'll be waiting for you. -Yes/No Questions: Will you be holding a red rose? Yes, I will. No, I won't. -Negative: I won't be wearing a dress. Usages: Future actions in progress. Guesses about the present or the future. Polite questions about somebody's intentions. 3.Future Perfect Form: will + have + past participle -Affirmative: I will have lived here for 3 years. -Yes/No
Questions: Will you have lived...? Yes, I will. No, I won't. -Negative: She will not have lived... Usages: Completion before a specified point in the future. Certainty that an action was completed. Actions or situations that will last in the future. 4.Future Perfect Continuous The future perfect continuous is used to say how long something will have continued by a certain time. Examples: By the time.../ By next week.../ By this time tomorrow... Form: will + have + been + verb + ing -Affirmative: I will have been cruising for 3 years. -Yes/No Questions: Will you have been cruising? Yes, I will. No, I won't. -Negative: He will not have been cruising. 5.Be going + Infinitive Form: verb "to be"" in the present + going to + base form of verb
