This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit covered the basics of lesson planning. The importance of a lesson plan is for the teacher to have an idea of what they want the students to learn, to form a flexible guide as to what activities will be done and how much time they will take, and to keep a record so that it can be referred to in the future. Each teacher will have their own way to form a lesson plan based on their own strengths or preferences. Some teachers may find a simple set of notes to be sufficient, while others may like to have a formal plan. However, for all plans, a teacher must seek to make it flexible, as well as informative as to what the lesson structure will be and the time each activity is expected to take. It should be made as simple as possible so that it may be used as a quick reference and not a rigid script. A lesson plan, no matter what the current subject, should include objectives for the students as well as what the teacher hopes to accomplish and/or improve. Along with the activities and the phase structure, a good lesson plan will also contain how this lesson is related in the context of previous and future lessons, as well as some problems that may arise. These problems can be in regards to the students and the material, the teacher and the way the material is being presented,
or even the physical way the class material have been set up. In order to remain flexible and to maintain a productive lesson, the lesson plan as well as all teaching materials should be tested or set up well before the class begins. This will give ample time to make corrections or fix the materials. The lesson plan should also take into account the level of the students, how many students are expected to attend (in order to make grouping more successful), and who will be interacting during the assignments (teacher to student, student to student, or students alone). Also, it is a good idea to add the date, classroom, and who the instructors and observes were for that day, it order to make future referencing easier.
