This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
The future tense is the most complex area of the English language, where many tenses and ideas can be used that have future meanings. The seven most common are: future simple, future continuous, future perfect, future perfect continuous, 'be going'' plus the infinitive, present simple and present continuous. The 'be going' plus infinitive and the present continuous are the most frequently used forms. The future simple form is used for future facts and certainties, promises, predictions based on no present evidence, assumptions/speculations, spontaneous decisions and threats. The affirmative follows a subject + shall/will + verb form, the negative a subject shall/will + not + verb form, the question form is shall/will + subject + verb and the awkward negative question is shall/will + subject + not + verb. Contractions of 'will' and 'will not' must be observed. The future continuous form is used to say that something will be in progress at a particular moment in the future, to 'predict the present', for polite inquiries regarding other people's plans and to refer to future events which are fixed or decided. The format is subject + will + be + verb + 'ing' (present participle). The future perfect is used to say that something will have been done, completed or achieved by a certain
time in the future. It is often used in conjunction with an adverbial expression, such as 'by the end' of', which signals when the future action will be completed. The form is will + have + past participle. The future perfect continuous format is used to say how long something will have continued by a certain time. The form is will + have + been + verb + 'ing'. The 'be going' + infinitive format is used to state intentions, predictions, and plans. (Also known as the 'going to' future). The form is 'to be' in the present + going to + base form of verb. The present simple is used to suggest a more formal situation and for timetables and schedules. The form follows present tense structure. The present continuous format is used for definite arrangements and decisions & plans without a time frame. It also follows the present tense structure.", It was almost the same as all the other tenses units. However the going to future section of the lesson was tricky. It was hard for me to distinguish at times the difference between simple and going to the future. I think I will have to take the teaching from this lesson and teach these two sections side by side
