This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit nine tells us about planning lessons. As teachers its important to have a plan before heading into the classroom, itÂ’s a way to be organized and have a record of what we wish to accomplish for that day. Lesson plans are helpful not just for ourselves but also for substitutes that might fill in for us if we are sick. Plans should be simple, structured, and focused on the main goals of the day. We should always try to be flexible and they donÂ’t have to necessarily be stringent to the point of being a script. We can think of it as a checklist for teachers. There are many different ways of organizing a lesson plan but the most important thing to consider is what objectives you want the students to learn by the end of class. Things to consider include what personal aims we have, what themes we want to present that can build on past and future lessons, materials, and problem solving anticipated issues in the lesson. Our lesson plans should be thought out, that includes what activities we want to do, how we structure them based on the ESA format, timing of each activity, and what type of interaction will the students get. When planning, itÂ’s important to think of the different variables in the classroom. What the layout of the class should be or what type of
seating arrangement we want to set up. ItÂ’s important to also prepare ahead of time such as our materials or check whether our equipment works. We should also make sure that the board is clean from previous classes or lessons. In our lessons, the sequencing of activities are very important for planning. Although we may put a lot of work in our plans, we should be flexible for the students to see if they are having issues with the lesson or maybe the students are enjoying the activity a lot. We also want to provide variety to keep their attention and we should plan for some reviewing so students can retain the information we teach. We should always try to build goals for our lesson plans so that they are focused. By being prepared ahead of time, we can keep a relaxed environment in the classroom. That way we can do things such as chatting with our students before class begins.", In this unit
