This unit provides real examples of how the teachers methods and attitude can affect the learning of their students. In the first class, an attitude of superiority coupled with a sense of frustration and anxiety from the teacher created apathy and fear in the students. This directly impacted the degree to which they participated in the lesson and their confusion throughout was quite visible. By contrast, the enthusiastic attitude of the teacher n the second lesson helped to incite confidence among the students. As he called on them to answer, he was not demanding correct responses or creating shame. Instead, the students were able to laugh off their mistakes and not dwell on them, helping to facilitate greater learning. The most important aspect of the video lessons was hinted at in one of the above test questions. Many students seemed to have trouble understanding the concept of making up an imaginary animal. In many cases, students can feel so overwhelmed with the new language racing around in their heads that they focus only on what is real. This can be useful for certain language levels, but once the students progress past basic understanding, the ability to abstract and think creatively becomes more important, not only to voicing their ideas, but to understanding the abstractions
of others. I found myself asking what I would have done differently to ensure the students understood the activity. In short, the lesson can be summed up as: be enthusiastic and personal, encourage creativity, correct students without shaming them, and check many times for understanding as the lesson progresses.
