The content of Unit 5 covers lesson planning and provides examples of lesson plans and lesson materials that might be used in a lesson. The unit goes into detail on how planning a lesson may be useful and mentions in several places that lessons plans are often different depending on the teacher and how much experience they have. It also talks about how a lesson plan might be written down and what information should probably be included. Also covered is the use of self-evaluation forms to monitor the progress of both the lessons and the teacher. Finally, the unit covers the planning of a sequence of lessons and how this may be different from simply planning a single lesson. This unit was particularly useful in a practical sense, in that it provided some solid examples of what a lesson plan and materials may look like. This is of course very helpful for me as I intend to make good use of them when planning lessons in the future. In terms of new information, it was interesting to learn just how much a lesson plan may differ depending on the teacher and how much experience they have. I definitely feel that to start with I will try to create fairly well-structured lesson plans, with a fair amount of detail on what I wish to achieve and how. When creating lesson plans I think that gauging
the correct timing for each activity will probably be the hardest part, as I do not currently have experience in teaching classes of students. The point concerning anticipated problems for both the student and the teacher was also a very interesting and I realise now that it is also vital to come up with solutions beforehand. The use of a self-evaluation form was another interesting point to learn about. I had not previously considered this and I understand now how it can help to improve both myself and my lessons.
