This module examines the uses and purpose of a Lesson Plan. The Lesson Plan helps maintain a logical sequence during the teaching of a lesson. It serves as a ready reference for the teacher during a lesson. It also helps to ensure that all valid points pertaining to a specific lesson are covered during the given time. It helps the teacher to stay on point during a lesson and monitor the studentÂ’s progress over a period of time in relation to an exam and the syllabus of the semester. A well-structured Lesson Plan allows for flexibility and adjustment during the course of the lesson and tailored to meet the needs of the class. It helps the teacher keep records of the lessons taught, the material used and the materials that may be required for future lessons. It can also serve as a guide to another teacher who has to stand in or continue a lesson should the appointed teacher be away for any reason. The Lesson Plan must be written in simple language for easy understanding and must ensure that the key points of the lesson synchronise with activities to allow a balanced and even flow of the lesson. Planning a lesson in advance allows for the teacher to access materials required for the lesson in advance and ensure that these are readily available for the duration of the lesson.
When preparing a lesson plan, the teacher has to consider the aim of the lesson and what the students expected to achieve at the end of the lesson. In addition the Theme under study has to be in focus during not only the present but also past and future lessons. The teacher needs to project possible challenges during the lesson and possible strategies to resolve them. Adequate preparation enables the teacher to structure the ESA teaching technique within the given lesson time. It helps the teacher monitor the amount of information given to the students during any given lesson and whether a lesson has to be extended over a specific time depending on the studentÂ’s abilities and understanding of English. A well-developed Lesson Plan assists the teacher in monitoring the studentÂ’s reading, writing, speaking, listening and comprehension skills over any given time. At the same time it accommodates teacher self-evaluation and enhances self-improvement. ", It's important to make lessons fun and thought provoking to keep students interest. Lots of activities will keep the students thinking and switching up the structure of the classroom i.e. working in pairs vs groups and solo work will get them thinking differently through each phase of the lesson. Definitely try to spice it up
and keep it moving., This unit emphasizes on lesson plans. Inexperienced teachers will have difficulties in finding the right balance between being flexible and being rigid. It synthesizes a very detailed list of what should be included in a lesson plan
