This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I think the most important conclusion we can draw after watching these two lessons is that the atmosphere in the class is one of the major factors of both successful teaching and learning. The teacher's attitude is extremely important. A good teacher should be positive, involved and aiming to do his job really well, which means they have to be very interested in their students success, just as much as the students themselves and maybe even more. It is essential to establish a good rapport between the teacher and the class, so the teacher has to know their students names and it's necessary to involve all the students in the activities. It’s important not to appear as a grumpy, uninterested someone but to try to become a kind of “engine” to the class, to prompt the students and to keep the lesson going and try to make it as interesting for the students as possible. What I think is clearly shown in these two videos is that the students are very receptive to their teacher’s attitude, so if the teacher can find a right kind of behaviour, even the shy and the weaker students will actively participate in the lesson. It is as well extremely important to clearly explain what is needed from the students and what they have to do, and showing some examples is good for that.
The use of pictures, miming, etc., can be useful to explain things clearly and improve the general understanding of the lesson. ", This unit was based on the two ESA demonstration.
