After watching the 2 demonstration class videos, I noticed a number of differences between both. Clearly, demonstration class 2 is a better example of how a lesson should be carried out. Here we can see that the teacher's attitude plays a big role in the student's performance and participation in class. In this lesson, the teacher adopts a more friendly and approachable attitude towards the students, creating a comfortable and less intimidating atmosphere for them to participate. He knows how to create rapport with the students by learning the student's names and involving all students equally throughout the lesson. The teacher is also cheerful in situations where students do well in class and this encourages them in a way to participate more often and uplift their self-esteem in class. Another big difference between both lessons is that in lesson 2 the teacher speaks in a more clear and slow way, making it easier for students to understand the context of the lesson and what they are being taught. The ESA point of this lesson is also very organized and effective. Throughout the Engage phase, students are asked by the teacher to name out any animals they know. This is followed by the Study phase in which the class goes through repeating exercises and finally, during the Activate stage,
students are asked to complete sentences by filling out blank spaces. Regarding demonstration class 1, students are not given a clear explanation of the lesson point, so they find it hard to understand. There is also a repetition made by the teacher in which he says that the lesson material is very easy and anyone can do it, this makes the students feel intimidated and confused, creating a low participation in class. There is no engagement with the students and the lesson is taught in a very fast and unclear accent, making it impossible for the students to understand the lesson. The teacher creates no rapport with the students and shows a negative atitude through the whole lesson. As for the ESA point of the lesson, it is confusing and unorganized.
