This unit looks at the various future tenses, their structure and usage. First the FUTURE SIMPLE : affirmative subject+will/shall+verb, negative S+ will not/shall not+ verb, interrogative will/shall + subj. It's mainly used for future facts or certainties, promises based on no present evidence, sponstaneous decisions. Teaching ideas like fortune telling, lost in the desert: what will you do/predicting what others will be like in X time THE FUTURE CONTINUOUS: is formed of the subj+be+will+verb+ing. It is mainly used to say that something will be in progress at a particular time in the future. Arranging a diary, using illustrative situations can be used as teaching ideas for this tense. THE FUTURE PERFECT: Subj+ will+have+ past participle of the verb. It is used to say that something will have been done, completed or achieved by a certain time in the future. Generally, an adverbial expression is used to say when the future event will be completed. example of teaching ideas are filling in diaries and elicit questions in the future perfect, invention of a future project etc.. THE FUTURE PERFECT CONTINUOUS: is formed of the subj+will+have+been+verb+ing. It is used to say how long something will have continued by a certain time. It often contains an adverbial expression that begins with
by. This tense can be practised to say how long the student has been doing something specific like hobbies, learning a language etc.. BE GOING TO+ INFINITIVE : verb to be in the present+going to+ base form of the verb. It is used for intentions, predictions based on present evidence and planned decisions. This tense can be taught using prompt or mimes, describing what we are planning for holidays, parties, what we are going to do as a future career etc.. THE PRESENT SIMPLE: subj+ base form of the verb. It's used to suggest a more formal situation, for timetable and schedule, to suggest a more impersonal tone. Teaching ideas include Sharing or compiling information from airport or railway schedule, discussing weekly timetable etc THE PRESENT CONTINUOUS: subj+ to be in the present+ verb+ing. It is used for definite arrangements and decisions without a time frame. Activities involving a secretary/ client scenario or future diaries are suitable for this tense.", This lesson was very interesting in that it discussed the future tenses
