This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
In this unit, I learned about writing lesson plans. A lesson plan fulfills 3 functions: first, it helps plan the lesson in that writing down what you expect students to learn and how the lesson will accomplish allows you to think systematically about how the lesson will progress. Second, it gives you some notes to use during the lesson. Third, it is a record of what was accomplished, which helps you plan for the future. Tips for writing a lesson plan include: keep it simple, write down anticipated time of each activity, make sure to balance activities and skills, and keep it flexible. Things to include in a lesson plan include the following: 1. What you want the students to be able to do by the end of the lesson. (Learner objectives) 2. What you want to improve on as a teacher. (Personal aims) 3. How this lesson fits into past and future lessons. (Context) 4. Any teaching aids that will be required. 5. Any problems or questions that might arise for you or the students (Anticipated problems) 6. The activities that will be used, what phase they are, how much time yo think they will take, and whether they are T-S or S-S (Procedure) 7. Other statistics: Date, time, number of students, and the level of the students After a lesson it is a good idea to reflect on how well the lesson
went and to write down some notes about its strengths and weaknesses, what problems arose, and how it could be improved. When planning a sequence of lessons, you should have some big picture goals in mind, but be open to flexibility, and you should revise the future lessons periodically. Also, while an individual lesson may emphasize one skill more than others, aim for variety and balance of skills over the course of a sequence of lessons.
