Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching. This convenient, highly structured design means that you can quickly get to grips with each section before moving onto the next.
This unit is very practical in that it describes when and how each phase of a lesson should be taught. It also explains why, i.e. punctuation may prove difficult for learners whose native languages have very different punctuation, or no punctuation at all. This is important to remember because extra lessons may be required for complete understanding. All in all, I liked this unit and feel I learned from it. It wasn't nearly as confusing as the grammar units! This section discussed a few things starting with authentic materials and non-authentic materials, and the difference between the two. It also went into the different sources for the types of materials that you can bring to the classroom and how to design these materials if you are doing so yourself. Additionally, it discussed lesson planning. Moreover, it discussed why a lesson plan is so important and how you can lay out a lesson plan using the ESA Method.
