This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
We have several ways of talking about the future: future simple, future continuous, future perfect, future perfect continuous, be+going+infinitive, present tor the future, and present continuous for the future. The future simple uses 'shall' for the 'I' and 'we' forms and 'will' for all forms. Affirmative: (sub. + shall/will + base form + ...) Negative: (sub. + shall/will + not + base form + ...) Question: (shall/will + sub. + base form + ...) The future simple is used for future facts and certainties, promises, predictions (not based on evidence), assumptions, spontaneous decisions, and threats. The future continuous is used for something that will be in progress at a point in the future, to predict the present, polite questions, and to refer to fixed future events. Affirmative: (sub. + will + be + verb + ing + ...) Negative: (sub. + will + not + be + verb + ing + ...) Question: (will + sub. + be + verb + ing + ...) The future perfect is used to say something will have been done by a certain time in the future. Adverbial expressions signal future event will be completed. Affirmative: (sub. + will + have + past participle + ...) Negative: (sub. + will + not + have + past participle + ...) Question: (will + sub. + have + past participle + ...) The future perfect continuous is used
to show how long something will have continued by a certain time. Adverbial expressions are made with the word 'by' to pinpoint the time. Affirmative: (sub. + will + have + been + verb + ing + ...) Negative: (sub. + will + not + have + been + verb + ing + ...) Question: (will + sub. + have + been + verb + ing + ...) We use 'be going' + infinitive to express intentions, predictions based on evidence, and planned events. Affirmative: (sub. + be + going to + base form) Negative: (sub. + be + not + going to + base form) Question: (be + sub. + going to + base form) The present simple can be used for the future, especially when suggesting formality, an impersonal tone, or to talk about timetables and schedules. The present continuous can also be used for the future when talking about definite arrangements and decisions or plans without a time frame.
