Anyone looking to gain a TEFL certificate needs to know that while there are dozens of course providers, there are only a few international organizations that are truly well established, well recognized and internationally accredited—one of them is ITTT.

Almost all employers around the world require teacher applicants to hold a TEFL certificate that was earned after the completion of at least 120 hours of training. Courses should be externally moderated and accredited.

In order to meet these standards, onsite courses must include at least six hours of observed teaching practice with non-native speakers as their students. Believe it or not, many providers simply have trainees delivering lessons to fellow trainees!

Onsite courses should also include dynamic lessons for the trainees themselves, covering all aspects of TEFL, including teaching methodology and theory, language awareness and phonology. Courses should also have a grading system for teaching observations as well as a final exam.

International TEFL and TESOL Training

By holding certification from a well-known organization such as International TEFL and TESOL Training (ITTT), employers can see that applicants have completed a reputable TEFL certification course which included six hours of observed teaching practice, that they completed all projects and assignments outlined in the course, and that the delivery of the lessons was of a high standard.

Many providers offer shorter courses that don’t meet international standards. If a teacher enrolls in one of these shorter courses, it’s important to understand that a certificate earned from this type of course may not help them get a job offer from a decent employer.

Therefore, enrolling in a course that meets international standards is beneficial to both the teacher and his or her students. ITTT not only meets international standards but is one of the world’s largest certification organizations in the world.
