The future tense consists of 7 structures such as; the future simple, the future continuous, the future perfect, the future perfect continuous, be-going + infinitive, the present simple and the present continuous. The first structure being the Future simple with e.g. I finish swimming at 8pm can be used for different purposes such as facts and certainties, promises, predictions, assumptions, spontaneous decisions, and threats. Most mistakes are made due to the mixing up of future simple structures with be-going to. To enable one to teach this specific structure, one could use fortune-telling, questions that prompt futuristic ideas and conversation, as well as lines from songs. The future continuous structure involves the subj+will+be+verbing with the example of it being used when something is in progress at a particular moment in the future, mistakes include not continuing the verb. The future perfect involves will+have+past participle i.e. i will have seen him by then. common errors are seen when the student gets confused with the tense of the verb in the futuristic state. The future perfect continuous consists of will+have+been+verbing which is used to describe something that has progressed and ended at a specific point in time in the future. Typical mistakes again involve the
incorrect tense of the verb. Be-going+infinitive is used for intentional conversation, predictions based on the evidence seen at a present state and futuristic plans. The present simple is used to suggest formalities, timetables and schedules. The present continuous is used for definite arrangements and decisions and plans without a time frame.
