This unit explains the forms, usages, common mistakes and teaching ideas of the future aspects and differentiates them from the future applications of the present tense. In this summary we will focus on the forms and usages for the five future tenses. Future Simple Form Affirmative: I /We + will / shall + verb You/He/She/It/They + will +verb Negative: I/We + will / shall + not + verb You/He/She/It/They + will + not + verb Question Will / shall + I/We? Will + You/He/She/It/They? Usage • Future facts and certainties • Promise • Predictions (Based on no present evidence) Future Continuous Form Affirmative: Subject + will + be + verb + ing (present participle) Negative: Subject + won´t + be + verb + ing (present participle) Question: Will + subject + be + verb + ing (present participle) Usage • Something that will be in progress at a particular moment in the future. • To predict the present • For polite enquires referring to other peoples plans. • To refer to future events which are fixed or decided. Future Perfect Form Will + have + past participle Usage Used to say that something will have been done, completed or achieved by a certain time in the future. Future Perfect Continuous Will + have + been + verb + ing Usage To say how
long something will have continued by a certain time. Be going plus going to Form Affirmative: Subject + to be in the present + going to + base form verb Negative: Subject + to be in the present + not + going to + base form verb Question: To be in the present + subject + going to + base form verb Usage • Intentions • Predictions based on present evidence • Plans (decisions made before speaking) In this unit we learned the important aspects of the five future tenses and the differences that exist between them so we do not confuse them. As teachers it is very important to understand this tenses and the mistakes students may have so we can plan our lessons with activities that help students avoid them. ", This unit finally summed up the usage of tenses in English although I doubt that they won't appear again in later units. This unit was really helpful because it more clearly demonstrated how to use the different tenses and provided more example sentences. I felt a lot less confusion than I did with the other two units on tenses., There are seven forms of future tenses. A few are easily confused.
