The future tense seems to be a very complex grammatical area of English. I have revised seven most common times used for expressing different nuances of information relating to future. Future facts and certainties you can express using Future simple - she will be 20 next month. To make a promise use Future simple, as well as to predict without present evidence. Also, use Future simple for assumption and speculations with I expect or I think, spontaneous decisions and threats. For prediction in the present use Future continuous - He will probably be heading home now. Though usual usage for Future continuous is to say something will be in progress at a certain time in the future, there are also other usages of this tense, like polite enquiries referring to other people's plans without influencing the listener's intentions. And when future events are fixed (without suggesting personal intention) Leon will be giving similar talk at the same time next month. Future perfect is used to say that something will have been completed by a certain time in the future. Future perfect continuous tense is used to say how long something will have continued by a certain time. Some other tenses are also used to express future - going to inf. express intentions, predictions based on present evidence
and plans made before the conversation. Present Simple is used to suggest a more formal situation - Our new school opens tomorrow, for timetables and schedules - The train to New York leaves at 6 a.m. And to suggest a more impersonal tone implying often an outside compulsion. Present continuous is used for definite arrangements and for decisions and plans without time frame.
