This unit had a lot of interesting ideas for in the class room. I agree the reading, listen, speaking, and writing are all important. This unit mostly focused on reading and listening. I think listening to a foreign language can be difficult. In English when we listen to things often times as native speakers we don't fully listen to what is being said but just get bits and pieces. We understand what is important and what is extra information. We know what the keywords are in a dialogue. A non native speaker however will try and listen fully to what is being said, and will focus on the words that are most familiar to them. However, in some circumstances the opposite can be the case when a student knows many of the words being said but doesn't know 1 word they might focus on that one word and miss what is said afterwards. I think the listening activities with a live person are easier for students than a recording as well. Often when a native speaker speaks they also give body language which can help with better understand of the subject. Reading on the other hand is something that is just learned through continuous practice. I believe learning to read English is easier in some ways than Japanese or Chinese, but it does have its difficulties. You can often sound out unknown words in
English, but then there are strange words that don't look how they sound. I thought the example of Elvis was a good example but I'm not sure it would interest students now a days.
