Application To Teaching Future Simple Application Usage of the future simple is for references to future facts and certainties, promises, predictions, assumptions/speculations, spontaneous decisions and threats. The use of shall is frequently to make a suggestion, invitations. Whereas will is used to express a stronger intention. My students will sometimes be confused between “be going to” and the future simple. Future Continuous Application Usages of the Future Continuous are: 1) To say that something will be in progress at a particular moment in the future.2) To “predict the present” to say what we think or guess might be happening now. 3) For polite inquiries referring to other people’s plans, but not to influence the listener’s intentions. 4) To refer to future events which are fixed or decided (without suggesting personal intention? A mistake that my students will typically make is missing part of the structure. The thought that the action will continue around a specific point in the future may in fact cause confusion. Some possible teaching ideas that I could use with my students are: arranging diaries/dates, trying to get out of a terrible thing that you do not want to do and illustrative situations. Future Perfect Application Future Perfect
tense is used to say something will have been done, completed or achieved by a certain time in the future. In future perfect, we look back on the past form a future stand point. It can be confused with future perfect continuous. The difference between the two is the completion by a certain time in the future and how long something will have continued by a certain time (future perfect continuous). I could apply any of the following teaching ideas: 1) Fill in future diaries and elicit questions in the future perfect. 2) Invention of an extremely successful future career. 3) Choose a famous historical person and note important dates in his/her life. 3a day and takes no holidays. ) Choose a famous historical person and note important dates in his/her life.4) A romantic novelist writes 300 page books. He/she writes ten pages. Future Perfect Continuous Application Future perfect continuous is used to say how long something will have continued by s certain time. It often includes an adverb expression that begins with “by”. Be Going + Infinitive Application Be going + infinitive tense can be confused with the present continuous, especially when the present continuous used the verb “to go”. The difference is that the “be going to” structure is always followed by
a verb. My students will learn to use this tense for: 1) Intentions 2) Predictions based on present evidence 3) Plans (decisions made before speaking). Some teaching ideas that I may have would be: 1) Making holiday/birthday party plans. 2) going to a game 3) Making predictions based on evidence. Present Simple Application My students will use present simple tense : 1) To suggest a more formal situation 2) For time tables and schedules 3) To suggest a more impersonal tome (often implying an outside compulsion) Present Continuous Application My students will use the present continuous tense for definite arrangements and for making decisions and plans without a time frame. Some ways I may get my students to do this are diaries/schedules and role-play. ", This unit teaches the future tense which has many forms and variations. I found this quite confusing and had to read through the unit a number of times to understand it properly. The examples contained in the unit notes were helpful and I hope I now have a better understanding of this tense., This unit looked at all the future tenses in detail and also discussed present tenses that have future applications. The future tenses that were covered were future simple
