This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
The content of both videos gives us an illustration about a teacher that does not follow a good teaching strategy and a teacher that does . as seen in the videos ,the suitability of the technique the teacher follows in delivering the lesson and setting a good learning environment are very important in order to reach the objectives of the lesson and keeping the students always eager to learn . the teacher used the boomerang ESA structure ,in the first part of the lesson ,an atmosphere of discouragement prevailed in the classroom .the teacher was not doing his work effectively .first ,he did not even introduce himself or showed interest in asking them about their names .he did not give consideration to the first step of building a rapport with the students. He talked in flat monotone with no sign of enthusiasm and optimism in communicating ideas to the students and give a full account of the lesson point .he begun the lesson by asking questions about auxiliary modal verbs without showing them examples that could enable them to recognize the lesson point or at least guess answers . this caused the students to lose interest , get bored and remain silent .the teacher loosened things up by saying it is much easier and what a surprise you have no idea about it which made the students
more reluctant .in the activate stage ,he seemed more bad-tempered and using inappropriate gestures ,like pointing at the student to answer or do something .he gave them the assignment to draw an animal without showing them an example or a prototype of how they best do the work .he was bad at monitoring because when the teacher keeps turning around in the classroom the student feels that he he is dominated which causes him lose focus and make no progress .when the lessonÂ’s time was over ,he wavered good bye without a smile on his face which would give the students a sense of failure .in the second lesson ,the teacher worked effectively, he had a a goal to reach and a good lesson plan start with ,he was able to make the student able to understand the auxiliary modal verbs by selecting animals and their abilities as the introductory phase .before he begun the lesson ,he introduced himself and asked students about their names which made the student more interested in learning .his body language made the difference and forced the students to pay attention .he was smiling when asking , using mime to help the student predict the abilities of the animals .also he used drawings for illustration to help the student further understand and keen to know more .he showed interest
,enthusiasm ,optimism ,flexibility in eliciting answers ,writing ,giving feedback .in the activate phase ,he showed them a finished product to make things clear for them and to to do their assignement the best way they can .when lesson time was over .he thanked the students and clapped his hands to show them they are good , perfect students .i can see that a well- planned lesson ,a positive attitude and a dynamic interaction are the main criterion to evaluate and differentiate between good and bad teachers .
