By comparing the two videos for unit 10 we were able to identify basic errors a teacher could make during a lesson and that will affect the effectiveness of his/her teaching. On the first video the teacher´s attitude was not adequate to build good rapport or confidence with in the class. The teacher completely lack of class management and some qualities that make a good teacher studied on unit 1. The teacher was not patient, lively and he didn’t motivate his students. Most of the class the teacher assumed a controller-role reducing student talk time to almost cero and when being assessor he was not consistent and sensitive. Teacher didn´t have good eye contact with his students, didn’t use gesture to convey the meaning of language, add visual interest or reduce the need for verbal explanation. His voice didn’t have the correct clarity and talked really fast. The teacher didn’t introduce himself to the class or asked students names. When asking a question the teacher would indicate who was to answer first ant then asked the question. On the first lesson the teacher worked with a whole class grouping and individual work but didn’t accomplish any of the pros for this two types of grouping. When working as a whole class he didn’t create a sense of belonging
among the group and when working in individual work he didn’t respond to individual differences. The teacher didn’t prepared vocabulary cards to reduce board work and spoke while facing and writing on the board. Teacher´s instructions were not clear for the students specifically on the activate stage. These are only few examples of the common errors observed on the first video. As teachers it is very important to understand that this errors can change dramatically the effectiveness of our students learning. ", This unit is about CD/Video Lessons the only problem was the teacher did not use any CD or Videos to teach the class. Apart from that the teacher in the first video was not easily understood by the adult students because they did not know about modal auxiliary verbs. The teacher in the second video was better and the adult students were engaged well in the topic being taught., This unit was very much helpful in understanding the way a teacher should act in the class in-order to get student's attention and make them participate. The attitude of a teacher prevented student's participation in the first video but his different attitude towards made it look students interested in the lesson in the second video., The attitude of the teacher is very important for class
participation. It is important to make the students feel comfortable and to explain new concepts by starting with concepts or vocabulary that the students have already learned. If students are having trouble understanding the questions that are being given to them then the use of miming
