In this lesson we are dealing with writing and speaking skills. Writing is usually ignored because it is a boring activity to do in class and as homework is not usually done, but it is one of the most difficult and important ones. Regarding speaking, we have to see the difference between accuracy (focused on producing correct language) and fluency activities (focused on the creativity of the language). Both are very important to acquire the second language. There are different kinds of activities to practice it; controlled, guided or creative that we can use to make students produce language. If they are afraid of doing it, we can try to encourage them working in pairs or groups, planning the lesson carefully, doing guided practice before they start, giving them time enough and so on. When the activity finishes, provide them with feedback and tell them how the exercise was. Writing: there are several factors that can influence the reader negatively for example poor handwriting or incorrect spelling. They need to be practiced and improved because they can create confusions when writing in a different language. When students are asked to create a piece of writing they have to be aware of the different types (formal letter, report, emailÂ…)Punctuation is also important to remark
if their native language is quite different. A creative way of practicing speaking and writing is through games. They can be competitive or co-operative (as hangman, twister, PictionaryÂ…), but the main point here is that students enjoy so they are more motivated to produce language.
