Unit 9, Lesson Planning, describes how a teacher should plan and carry out lessons in the classroom. Too much planning can make a lesson rigid. A teacher must be flexible to the needs of his or her students. A teacher should make notes and complete lesson plan forms however, allow students to somewhat direct the learning if the lesson needs to be adjusted. The functions of a lesson plan are: an aid to planning, a working document and a record. The main notes that should be made in a lesson plan are as follows: learner objectives, personal aims, context, teaching aids, anticipated problems, procedure, phase, timing, interaction, class level, number of students, date/time, teacher & observer names. Teachers should also monitor their lessons for quality and to improve their skills. By assessing the strengths and weaknesses of your lesson, you may plan appropriately for future lessons and the effectiveness of how you plan your lessons.
