Lesson Planning is important as it gives an aid to the planning, serves as a working document and it is used as a record to what the students have learned and when. Lesson plan must be simple for the teacher to refer to when needed, not to script the lesson, make it structured and maintain the structure, write anticipated time allocated for each activity and write it on the margin, teacher must flexible and let the plan open for adaptation. Teacher must be organized and make sure she has the lesson plan, read through it before the lesson if she needs any teaching aids and materials to prepare and lay them out to make it easy for her to find them when needed. She also needs to make sure equipments are working in the class, the board is clean, prepare the seating arrangements before students arrive and stand and be prepared to welcome the students when they come in to break the ice and make them in the mood of learning. Each lesson plan must have a learning objectives, personal aims, teaching aids and materials, context of the lesson, anticipated problems for students and teachers with solution, timing for each activity, procedure, phase (engage, study and activate), interaction, level of language for students, number of students, date and time and finally name of the teacher or observer.
The teacher must evaluate herself after the lesson to make sure the lesson went well and make notes of any modifications made to the procedure and why they were made and how effective those changes are to ensure the lesson is improved. The form of the self evaluation would include the context to which LO and Personal aims are met, modifications made to the procedure, accuracy of the anticipated problems for students and teachers and how efficient the solutions were, effectiveness of the engage, study and activate stage, weakness and strength of the lesson and areas of improvements.
