In this unit I learned how to introduce and teach the two productive skills, speaking and writing. I discovered the four factors which need to be present for creating communication and learned it is vital for a teacher to incorporate these factors into each activity in order to inspire the desire to communicate among students. I learned that there are two components to speaking a new language, theses are; accuracy and fluency. These are introduced at separate lesson stages but instead of being restricted in technicalities a teacher should be more concerned with the effectiveness and the flow of the communication. I learned that is up to the teacher to create a comfortable environment so that students will feel comfortable communicating in the classroom setting. The teacher may do this by introducing topics that relate to the students, also teachers may guide students into a conversation but they must make sure that they don't dictate the lesson. There are also many other useful techniques to encourage interaction covered in this unit. I learned that it very important for teacher to keep track of recurring mistakes. A teacher should reserve correctional procedures for after a lesson as not to interrupt flowing communication, thus decreasing confidence of the student who is speaking.
I learned that along with the speaking aspects, there are many different factors which need to be considered when introducing and teaching writing skills. I learned how a teacher can effectively introduce these skills by extensive exposure to different writing styles such as; poetry, short stories, letters, non-authentic reading material and through classroom games.
