Unit 9-Lesson Planning We learned in lesson 9 the basic principles of lesson planning.We looked at why teachers plan their lessons,what to include in the planning process and we were shown how to make a lesson plan that is practical and easy to use in the classroom. The writing of a lesson plan has a number of important functions: 1.as an aid to planning-writing down what you expect the students to achieve from the lesson,and how you,as the teacher,intend to make that possible. 2.as a working document-a lesson plan will help the teacher stay on target during class.It will also serve as a reference and guide. 3.as a record-a lesson plan acts as a record of what the class has done and what materials were used.It also can be helpful when another teacher needs to cover your class in your absense. We were taught the basic principles of lesson planning.We were told how to keep organised so that our lessons/classes run smoothly. What a teacher includes in his/her lesson plan can vary,but at the start of our teaching carrers we will probably want to structure our plans more. We were given a list of subjects to include in our lesson plans:learner objectives,personal aims,context,teaching aids,anticipated problems,procedure,phase,timing interaction,class level,number of students,date/time
and teacher's and observer's names. We were shown an example of a lesson plan to use as a guide when preparing our own. We learned the importance of monitoring our own lessons,focusing on our strengths and weaknesses.This can be a good way to develop our teaching skills and effectiveness.
