Future perfect - Positive form- Subject + shall/will + verb(past participle) Damien will have completed his project by evening. Question – Will/shall + subject + have + verb (past participle) Will Damien have completed his project by evening? Question – Will/shall + subject + have + been + verb + ing By tomorrow morning, will Kylie have been enjoying her vacations? ‘Going to’ future - Positive - Subject + present form of verb + going to + base form of verb. Gary is going to play the piano now. Negative – Subject + present form of verb + not + going to + base form of verb. Gary is not going to play the piano now. Question – Present form of verb + subject + be + going to + base form of verb. Will Gary be going to play the Piano now? USAGES Future simple ? Facts and Certainties – The festival of Eid will fall in the month of October. ? Predictions – We will see an early onset of winter this year. ? Promises – I will definitely do it tomorrow. ? Assumptions – The School Rock concert will rock, I am sure. ? Spontaneous decisions – I’ll complete my worksheet right now. Future continuous – ? Predicting the present – Tushar will probably be flying by now. ? Polite enquiries – Are you joining me for dinner? ? To tell about something happening at a particular time in the future – I will be giving my performance around this time tomorrow ? Referring to future pre decided / fixed events - In February
next year, I will be sitting for my Final Exams. Future perfect – ? To describe something that will have been done or completed by a particular time in the future – I will have finished my book by Summer next year. Future perfect continuous – ? To describe how long something will have continued in the future (It is similar to the future perfect tense but to differentiate this to students we can explain that future perfect continuous generally uses adverbial phrases like ‘By’) I will have been still playing football by this time next year. ‘Going to’ future – ? Predictions – (based on present evidence)- Do you think I am going to do anything, except play Soccer. ? Plans – (pre decided) I am going to cook my dinner this evening. ?
