This chapter covered the two receptive skills, namely reading and listening. I learned that both are equally important that there are reason and motives for both reading and listening. It was fascinating to realise that there are different ways in which we read and listen. Accomplished English speakers often scan, or skim through text or dialogues without consciously realising what they are doing, yet these skills are learned over time. I found the creation of interest in the text and dialogue to be a big", Unit eleven is about teaching how to identify and develop the studentÂ’s receptive skills (reading and listening). I am very aware of receptive skills because I had to develop my own receptive skills to be a good student in graduate school. Receptive skills enable people to learn. What I learned most from this unit is how to develop an ESA patchwork lesson for developing student receptive skills. In the section on problems with reading and listening I learned that language is learned in pieces rather than captured all at once.
