Unit 6--Video Lessons—showing us two videos of two ESA demonstration from the same teacher and the same context. With the same group students From the two videos ,it is obviously to see the difference between the first lesson and the second lesson. Although the teacher teaches with straight arrow of ESA in these two class, it is really bad in the first class because he doesn’t have experience how to manage the classroom. And how to affect the classroom atmosphere. Here I would like to give a list of the bad of the first lesson . 1. Lesson planning----Before the lesson, 1)he is not prepared for the anticipated problems for students, such as “can” and “could”. When a student asks him , he says he will tell her later. And later he really answers but he give an incorrect answer---“can” and “could” the same. 2)He is not prepared how he should bring out a new grammar of modal auxiliary verbs from previous lesson such as animal vocabulary. 2.Engage stage----at the start of the course, he hasn’t tried to establish the rapport with the students such as introducing each other. 2)He hasn’t prompted any information or given any examples of “can” and “can’t”, or showing pictures or any gesture to make things easier but
just keeps talking” modal auxiliary” is “easy” “very very easy” which makes the students stressed and intimidated to answer incorrectly. 3)He speaks too fast and explain unclearly which not at the students’ level and confuses the students. 3. Study stage---1)before he gives the worksheets to the students, he doesn’t explain what the students should do just keeps saying “very very easy”. If we were observers there, we didn’t know what the students were required to do. 2)while the students are doing paper work, he is sitting there but not walking around to check understanding 3)He doesn’t check the students understanding by asking them what they have learnt but only ask “Any questions?” 4) During the study stage, there is no drilling of pronunciation or spelling or analysis. When the students answer correctly ,he doesn’t praise to encourage them. 4.Activate stage----unclear instruction to ask the students to create their own “super animal” which confuses the students again. To summarize, it is an unsuccessful lesson. The teacher’s talk time is too much while the students talk time is not enough. Second, the teacher’s attitude discourage the students to participate. Third ,by the end of the class, the
students can’t reach the learner objectives as the teacher expects. The second lesson ,is good, but if the teacher can cut off 5-10minutes from the study stage and use it in activate stage, it will be much effective. Before the students create their own animal, it is good for ask the students to practice “can” and ”can’t” using the animal vocabulary in pairs or group fluently. For the purpose of activate stage is---use the language fluently.", By comparing the two videos
