This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Effective lesson depends on several aspects of teaching like the teacher skill and mastery of the lesson, teacherÂ’s attitude towards students and vice versa, appropriateness of activities, and a well-developed lesson plan. In the videos presented for observation in this unit, it clearly showed the huge difference between a well-planned and an unplanned lesson. The first video clearly showed a very dull and boring lesson since the teacher did not give equal opportunity to learn the language on their own. The expectation of the teacher towards the students was at high level which led to incomplete process. The lacking of some parts of the lesson was vividly visible on the studentsÂ’ faces as their faces looked so confused, bored and felt incomplete. On the teacherÂ’s part also, he did not rephrase some questions which were difficult to the students. Primarily, proper discussion about the topic lacked since it was immediately introduced to the students and right away asked them. In that case, the students did not know about the topic and just completed the worksheets provided by the teacher. Another thing also was that the teacher did not recognize every student and their answers seemed neglected an unappreciated. However, on the second video, the reverse on the first
video was done. In this video, the teaching process was successfully carried out and well done. Full participation and non-stressful environment gave the students high motivation to learn and to participate. As seen on the video, every individual was warmly recognized and all of their answers were appreciated by the teacher. Furthermore, the smiling face and variation of the teacherÂ’s voice heightened the good rapport between the students and the teacher. Proper use of instructional materials like pictures aided the full understanding the students about the lesson as well as the miming and gestures meaningfully elicited ideas from the students. Therefore, if I am going to choose between the two videos, it would surely be the second video because I can the effectiveness of the approach of the lesson, the Engage, Study and Activate approached was excellently implemented by the teacher without making the teacher, himself, too trying hard to explain. It can therefore be concluded that whatever topics one will be discussing for as long as it is effectively and properly planned, then it will be learnt successfully and meaningfully. ", This unit shows you examples of what and what not to do in the classroom. This unit made it very clear that a teacher needs to be prepared before they
teach the class. It was very obvious that the second lesson was much better because the teacher was prepared. I was frustrated with the second lesson because somethings the teacher said were incorrect. For example
