This video is part of our series on the past tenses in English. In this video, we take a look at the past perfect tense and suitable teaching ideas for this tense. We'll ask our students to describe what a person in a picture had just done before the photo was taken.
Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching. This convenient, highly structured design means that you can quickly get to grips with each section before moving onto the next.
Unit 9 covers the basics of lesson planning, including the various elements required in a lesson plan and examples of a lesson plan form and self-evaluation form. It emphasised the importance of creating a plan but also the importance of keeping it flexible to meet the needs of the students as the class moves forward. The Task sheet in this unit had us try to write a full lesson plan from provided materials and I thought this was a very useful task. This unit shows two examples of a lesson thought by the same teacher. One good and bad lesson. In the first video the teacher confused the students with inflexibility, his manner and rising fear of failure pointing out how easy it is. In the second lesson his interest in students names, smiling and positive attitude creates a more engaging atmosphere. Also his instructions are clear, he is using gestic and mimic to help new vocabulary to sink in.
