This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit has reinforced again the different tenses and their usages, but with a future meaning. After seeing for the third time the formation of a sentence in the (future) perfect continuous; subject + will + have + been + verb+ing, it is now much easier to acknowledge it in a sentence and will be easier to teach to students. I now know that 'will' can be replaced by may, might, shall, only in the right context of course. The 4 main tenses used are; Future Simple ( used to dictate facts, promises/threats, predictions, spontaneous decisions & assumptions) Future Continuous is used to say something is in progress at a future time: (just as the past continuous is used to say something was in progress at a past time, & the Present Continuous to say something is in progress at a present time) also can be used to predict the present so to speak, and for polite enquiries without influencing the final decision. Future Perfect is used to say that something will be completed or achieved by a certain time in the future and is used with an adverbial expression And finally the Future Perfect Continuous tells us how long a certain action will have continued by a certain time in the future, also used with adverbial expressions, like By. Also in the Future tenses we use: 'Going To' tense used
to express intentions, plans and predictions based on present evidence, 'Present Simple' that's used more for talking about timetables and schedules & the 'Present Continuous' for speaking of definite arrangements and decisions with no time frame. Also it is interesting after learning which are the common mistakes in the usage and forms of these tenses, it was easier to explain to students after witnessing them make these mistakes.
