This Unit talks about Productive skills, speaking and writing. Speaking has a communicative purpose, in other words, people speak because of a need of something or a desire to achieve something. Accuracy and fluency are two basic activities to improve speaking skills, equally important, that must be well balanced during a lesson. Accuracy activities are carried out to product a correct language, fluency activities allow students to be creative and able to speak without stopping to think. So the accuracy will be used in the study phase, while fluency will be the focus of activate phaseÂ’s activities. Again, accuracy must be the focus of controlled activities and should play an important role in guided activities but creative communication must be based on fluency. Before a lesson starts, teachers must be prepared to generate studentsÂ’ interest, therefore creating that need or desire we speak for. So the engage phase must be used to encourage student that for different reasons are reluctant in speaking. Writing has a lot of similarity with speaking but also some differences such as grammar, spelling, handwriting, layout and punctuation, moreover it possess a more formal vocabulary. Handwriting, punctuation and spelling can be divided in two categories, situational and creative,
and a teacher should be able to teach their distinctions in usage. Games can be very useful in both speaking and writing activities to get lessonÂ’s goals while having fun within a relaxed, comfortable environment. Games can be competitive or cooperative, with a linguistic or a non-linguistic aim. They are a rich resource that can be easily adapted to language teaching.
