We can consider the future tense system as one of the most complicated areas of the English grammar. Apart from the usual aspect combinations (simple, continuous, perfect and perfect continuous), we also must bring into this group “be going to”, the present simple with future meaning and the present continuous with future meaning. Problematic aspects and ideas to be taken into account: - Future simple: use of will vs shall in interrogatives; mistakes such as “I will to go”. Teaching activities used are predicting future changes and “what will you do if you win the lottery?”. - Future continuous: mistakes in missing parts of the structure. Teaching activities: arranging diaries or dates (“What will you be doing at 2 tomorrow?”). - Future perfect: mistakes in missing parts of the structure. Teaching activities: listing things that students expect to have been accomplished by a given time in the future. - Future perfect continuous: missing parts of the structure and confusing the usage. Teaching ideas: “How long have you been doing something + time expression?”. - Be going to: confused with the future simple and the present continuous form of “go”. Typical activities: talking about intentions/plans or predictions based on present evidence.

Teaching activities involve talking about plans and arrangements. As we can see, the future tense system is quite extensive in the English language.
